Urban Art Week reloaded! Join us for 2019’s format!

.

Under the common umbrella of URBAN ART WEEK, old and new local urban art actors will network to offer a coordinated, multifaceted program over eight days in several districts of Berlin.

The program provides an insight into the work of the participants, such as galleries, project spaces, associations and initiatives, and thus into current developments in the art movements of urban art, such as street art, graffiti writing, muralism and works by artists and photographers who deal with the urban. In addition several exhibitions and live paintings, various workshops, guided tours, talks, performances, a movie night and parties will accompany the week. The format serves to make urban art visible, to communicate it to a broad audience, and to facilitate encounters and exchanges between actors, artists, and visitors.

STREET ART BERLIN presents you here a selection of this year’s programme, in chronological order. Swing by and be astonished!

  1. Streetart Berlin Tours

Discover together with us the creative city of Berlin with it’s unique street art scene. Sprayed artworks and tags as a tourist magnet? Yes, because according to the New York Times, Berlin is Europe’s street art capital. Indeed, graffiti and street art belong to the cityscape. They are an expression of artistic and political ideals and attract millions of people each year. On canvases, facades, walls and everywhere, where you don’t expect it, you can encounter stencils, murals, stickers and other forms of street art. During the tour, your eyes will be sharpened for that form of art: What is the difference between graffiti and street art? What makes Berlin’s scene so special? Which techniques are out there? Where did famous artists like BLU and Os Gemeos operpetuated themselves? What is legal and what not? Our guides are artists themselves who shaped and shape Berlin’s city scape and thus, are able to give you first hand and inside information. With our round tour we promise you to see Berlin through very different eyes! The tour takes place with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 22 persons, one ticket costs 15 euros.

2. Past Present Future

Just in time for this year’s Urban Art Week, the artists Ruben Ponica and Victor Puzin will transform the Potsdamer Platz into a 3D landscape. On the occasion of the 30 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, the famous Potsdamer Platz will be shown as it was 30 years ago, a construction side, and how it will look like soon, e.g. through a new concept and redesign of the shopping mall Potsdamer Platz Arkaden. Therefore, a huge, 35 m² 3 dimensional painting will be seen on the floor. Furthermore, another 35 m² 3D-painting will emerge at Marlene-Dietrich-Platz, showing a futuristic vision of the Potsdamer Platz in 30 years. The inauguration takes place on 5th of September. The paintings can be seen throughout the whole duration of the Urban Art Week and beyond that until 15th September. Visitors are invited to take photos.

10.000s of followers in the social media channels, 100.000s comments and likes and almost as many pictures. Petra Branke is everywhere to take photos of Germany’s artists and cities. She is restless, always on the move. With watchful eyes for special places, human interactions and funny, unique happenings. In the focus of her work are the artists and their artworks, the joy of spending time together while an artpiece is being made in the streets or the streets themselves.

Thus, she captures authentic and unadulterated moments. Other photos include slapstick moments, for which Petra got an eye like noone else. As part of the Urban Art Week 2019, her photos will be exhibited in a solo-exhibition for the very first time. Photos, that invite you to be astonished, to shake your head, to laugh and to feel.
